Jacinta Numina was born at Stirling Station, Central Australia in 1965 and is niece to the world acclaimed Petyarre sisters from Utopia. In the early eighties she started painting with a group of lady elders from the Utopia region. The central theme of her artwork relates to her knowledge of the Anmatyerre (Women`s) Law and her country. In 1996, Jacinta moved to Darwin to formally study art at Charles Darwin University and completed her Associate Degree in Art and Design in 2003. The next year saw Jacinta complete her traineeship in printmaking and was then appointed as a fulltime printmaker at Northern Editions, she currently works with the NT Government. Jacinta mainly paints on canvas, but she has also painted artifacts such as shields, coolamons and didgeridoos.

Formal Artistic Training:

1991-1994 Attended a course in General Studies at School of Australian Indigenous Knowledge (formerly (CAIS), CDU. 1995-1996 Completed the Certificate in Textile Art, Nungalinya College, Darwin. 1997-2000 Completed a Diploma of Fine Arts at the School of Art and Design, now School of Creative Arts and Humanities, CDU. 2001-2003 Completed associate Degree in Arts and Design at CDU. 2009 Conducted courses in painting and printmaking at both Kick Arts (djumbunji press), Cairns QLD and West Cape Indigenous Arts Hub, Weipa, QLD.

Australian Print Symposium, National Gallery of Australia. 2006 NAIDOC Week, Indigenous Art Exhibition, Hibiscus, Sydney. 2004 Commissioned by Bond University, Queensland, as artist for corporate gift etchings and guest speaker, Government House NT to visiting Ministers and Ambassadors. 2003 Graduate Show, School of Creative Arts & Humanities, Charles Darwin Uni. Darwin, NT. 2000 Exhibited in NAIDOC, Exhibition Darwin, Darwin City Mall. One Mob, Eura Aboriginal College, Sydney. Northern Editions (Prints), CDU. Darwin. Commissioned by Morrissey fashion label, Sydney, for Women`s Dreaming design. 1999 Not Today, Not Tomorrow, exhibition, CDU Darwin. 1998 Printmaking group CDU. Exhibited in Threads, an exchange exhibition with Northern Polytechnic, Whangarei New Zealand and the Craft Council of NT, travelling to VIC, NSW. and South Australia.
