June was born on Texas Downs Station in Kununurra (Kimberleys) Western Australia in 1962. She has lost both her mother and father, but Madigan and Sandy Thomas treat her like a daughter. and now she lives in Kununurra and also in Roebourne with her partner. She has eight children and visits her relatives at Warmun as often as she can.
She was taught to paint in ochre by the famous ochre artist, Lena Nyabi, and has painted collaborative works with well-known Warmun artist Tommy Carroll. Through her extended family June is able to paint the vast expanse of her country, the Gidja land.
June paints in the typical Warmun style thick, crusty ochre. She is an emerging artist painting her father’s and mother’s dreamtime stories and the landscapes of their country, which she is currently doing with advice from Lena. June now paints mainly acrylic on canvas. Her works is a bold, minimalist representation of country.
